Some companies do not know how to test the waterproofness of product shells. In fact, they do not know what waterproof level the product shell should reach. Here, the editor will give you some knowledge about waterproof levels, starting with IPX1 and IPX2.
In the national standard "GB4208-2017 IP Code for Shell Protection Level", the waterproof level can be divided into nine levels from IPX1 to 9. Among them, IPX1 and IPX2 are both drip-proof in test conditions, but there are also many differences.
Test conditions for waterproof level IPX1: use a drip tank, the shell is placed on a turntable, the water flow is 1+0.5mm/min, and the test duration is 10 minutes;
Test conditions for waterproof level IPX2: use a drip tank, the shell is tilted 15 degrees at four fixed positions, the water flow is 3+0.5mm/min, and each tilt position is 2.5 mins.
The test method of waterproof grade IPX1: Place the sample on a turntable with a rotation speed of 1r/min, the eccentricity (the distance between the axis of the turntable and the axis of the sample) is about 100mm, the distance between the top of the sample and the dripping plate is 200mm, the water flow of the dripping plate should evenly cover the surface of the sample shell, and the test duration is 10min.
The test method of waterproof grade IPX2: Tilt the sample turntable by 15 degrees, place the sample on a turntable with a rotation speed of 1r/min, the eccentricity (the distance between the axis of the turntable and the axis of the sample) is about 100mm, the distance between the highest position of the top of the sample and the dripping plate is 200mm, the water flow of the dripping plate should evenly cover the surface of the sample shell, and the sample is tested at four inclined fixed positions for 2.5min each, and the total test duration is 10min.
Through the above description, we find the difference between IPX1 and IPX2 in waterproof grade. When testing samples with IPX1, the samples need to be placed flat on the sample turntable, and when testing samples with IPX2, the samples need to be placed on the sample turntable with a 15-degree tilt.
Moreover, the water flow rate of IPX1 is 1+0.5mm/min, and the water flow rate of IPX2 is 3+0.5mm/min.
However, the tests of IPX1 and IPX2 in the waterproof level can be set up on the same waterproof test machine, which we usually call a drip test chamber.
